7 Days in Switzerland for CLOY fans, Hikers & More

March 25, 2022

Switzerland is one of the most beautiful countries on earth. I think it is place that everyone should try to visit at least once in their lives!

It is also one of the film locations for the popular K-Drama– Crashlanding on You (I’m a fan!). So when I got the opportunity to spend a week in Switzerland, I decided to check out some of the romantic spots where the series was filmed, and work in some good hikes as well.

Would you like to see where Crash Landing On You was filmed? Do you love hiking, beautiful Swiss scenery and a dash of city life? If yes, then this 7 Days in Switzerland for CLOY fans, hikers & more is for you!

Highlights include:

*Explore filming locations from the series Crash Landing On You

*Visit the famous Jungfrau region, including the Jungfraujoch

*Wander through the beautiful old streets of Luzern

*Roam along the shores of the most beautiful Swiss lakes, the Vierwaldstätter See, and the lakes of Brienz and Thun

*Hike around the Faulhorn peak

*Watch the emerald-green Aare weave its way around Bern’s quaint old city

*Taste Lucerne’s local version of the famous fondue

Day 1 – Bern

Start in Switzerland’s small but enchanting capital. Roam the streets of the old city, gaze up the clock tower, and visit some of the many museums surrounding the old town.

Stop on one of the bridges and observe the emerald-green Aare sneaking its way through the city and surrounding mountains. Take your time exploring this lovely city.

Day 2 – Sigriswil & Iseltwald

Sigriswil

Drive to the village of Sigriswil and marvel at the tranquil views over Lake Thun. Take a brief stroll around the alpine houses dotted on the green hills, and visit the spectacular suspension bridge made famous in the TV series Crash Landing On You. Entry fee to visit the bridge is around 8 Euro.

In the afternoon, drive along the shores of Lake Thun to Iseltwald.

Iseltwald

Iseltwald is a tiny village on the shore of Lake Brienz. Its stunning setting is unrivaled, especially in the early morning or late afternoon when the turquoise waters of the lake add to the experience.

Don’t forget to visit the small pier where characters Se-Ri and Captain Ri from Crashlanding first meet each other!

*For a real CLOY adventure, extend your trip with a paragliding activity in Interlaken (available below at get your guide).

Day 3 – Jungfraujoch

Time to take the train to the Jungfraujoch, Europe’s highest train station at 3463 meter above sea level!

The route is an incredible marvel of engineering. The last stretch is a tunnel hacked out of the famous Eiger gletcher next to the Jungfrau.

From Interlaken Ost, take the train to Grindelwald, transfer to the new Eiger Express cable car which takes you for the last stretch through the Eiger to the Jungfraujoch. Here you can find more information about the Eiger Express.

You will recognize many aspects from the many movies that were shot here (such as James Bond). Even in mid-summer you can enjoy a snowball fight at this height! Don’t forget to bring your jacket!

Activities at Jungfraujoch include:

  • 360 Degree panoramic views at the Sphinx observatory
  • Admiring ice sculptures in the Ice Palace
  • Walking outside in the snow and enjoying the Grosser Aletsch glacier

  • Visiting the Lindt Chocolate Haven where you can buy chocolate till you drop and learn more about how chocolate is made

At Jungfrau there is more than enough to do including enjoying informative exhibitions, multimedia shows and multiple restaurants!

If you spend 4-5 days in the Jungfrau region, do buy a rail ticket. It is expensive, but it gives you access to many cable carts, trains, and boats in the entire region! It comes highly recommended. Rail tickets are available a.o. at Interlaken Ost trainstation or online.

Day 4 – Alpine fields

Go for a few short and easy hikes in the mountains to prepare for the moderate Faulhornweg hike the next day. Take the scenic cable car up the Männlichen and proceed another 15-20 mins walking to the top (at 2343m.).

Then walk the short but breathtaking Panorama hiking route with stunning views over the surrounding mountains.

From Kleine Scheidegg, you can either walk on, or take a train elsewhere.

At the end of the day, take the short funicular ride up Harder Kulm from Interlaken. The views over the valley are great, and there’s a few amazing hiking routes up here as well.

Don’t forget to visit the glass-floor viewing platform at the Harder Kulm restaurant!

Day 5 – Hiking to the Faulhorn mountain

Explore one of Switzerland’s finest hiking routes. From Wilderswil train station, take the century-old funicular train to Schynige Platte.

Visit the botanical alp garden and start walking through the lush mountain scenery. The landscape gets barer the further you ascend, but the stark views of the mountains are incredible.

From the beautiful Bachalpsee, it is only one more hour to First and cable car back to Grindelwald. This route is moderately difficult and easy to walk for those in good physical shape.

Day 6 – Cruising the Alpine lakes

Time to relax! And what better way than to cruise your way over the Thun and Brienz lakes in a boat.

Enjoy a traditional Swiss meal on board.

Day 7 – Luzern

Drive to the beautiful city of Luzern, around one hour from Interlaken. Wander through the streets of the old city, visiting waterside café’s for a cup of hot chocolate.

Cross the ancient wooden bridges and marvel at the striking architecture.

The location of Luzern is unrivaled, located on the northern edges of the turquoise Vierwaldstättersee.

If you still have energy after exploring the city, take your car and drive around the northern edges of the lake. At Schwyz, you can turn back to Luzern, or proceed to drive around the entire lake. Finish off the day with a cheese fondue at one of Luzern’s many waterside restaurants.
